Today I read the newspaper and found an inspiring article.
The article was about how this generation of people, or just people in general are slowly turning into robots, solely depending on their smartphones for social interactions.
Now I may be one of the lucky few, or the above mentioned may be a wrong interpretation, but I do not feel this way at all.
I have been in the possession of a smartphone for about 5 years (with internet) and I must say it has brought me nothing but joy. I may be blind to my own actions, or at least biased, because I’m me, but having a smart phone if anything has brought me more social interaction in real life. And okay, yes, I do spend a vast amount of time on it, using whatsapp and line, facebook and twitter, but never have I ever been with my friends where they were all focused on their smartphone.
I love texting my mom and dad and I love reading their replies. When there’s no time to visit, I can still keep in touch with short messages and when there is time I can make an appointment to visit, YES, using my smartphone. We are able to arrange a meeting with 15 people, arranging a party, pick a date to meet. Imagine sending letters back and forth..;
“Dear Bobby,
I’d love to see you again, can you meet on the 24th of November?
Love, Bily.”
– “Hey Billy,
Unfortunatly I can’t, what about the 25th?
Later!”
“Dear Bobby,
On the 25th I will be busy with trimming my dog. He is so hairy. I enclosed a picture. Can you meet on a Tuesday?”
– “Dear Billy,
Tuesday is meatloaf day, sorry can’t miss that.”
Imagine the paper used!! THINK OF THE PLANET!!
My phone is turned on 24hrs a day, but I decide when I look at it or when I don’t. Without my smartphone, surely it would still be possible to maintain social contacts, but having internet and nifty chat programs that can make you see when the other person has read your message is so damn convenient! If you’re with your friends and they can only look at their phone the entire time, maybe it’s time to find some new friends. And if you’re with your friends and they’re all busy writing letters, maybe it’s time to buy them a smartphone.
